For project #3, my partner and I redesigned the "Recommended" videos area on YouTube's homepage. The user's mental model for this section is that it will help them discover new videos which they wouldn't have previously thought to search for. They also would probably assume that these videos would be ones that they would be interested in. Since people don't really use this section very often, since it seems like the videos are not tailored to the users' interests, we redesigned it so that it would use a personalization feature to provide videos that the users would be interested in watching.
This might differ with the implementation model of the programmers because YouTube might have added this section to make the homepage more exciting and to have more going on in it, and also to provide a random assortment of videos so that the user could become interested in a variety of categories on the site. The programmers could have also implemented this section to display some of YouTube's most viewed videos so that the users would notice them and continue watching.
