For project 3, my partner and I redesigned the home screen to be less cluttered and easier to use, or more obvious. The user's mental model for a home screen is most likely having the search bar at the top with the log in right next to it. They might expect some kind of way too look at what is "hot" at the moment. What we did for this was capitalize on the mental model. We made it more obvious where the search bar was, or where to find the trending, most popular videos. The user will be able to think about what is so easy about a typical home screen, but be able to navigate it even easier this way.
This might contrast with the implementation model of the programmers because the user doesn't really understand how the programmers make everything happen. They don't need to know how this stuff works or how they made it display that way, they just need to know how to use it. The difference is their mental model has to be reflected so they understand how to navigate through your design, but the implementation model does not require their understanding.
