The problem of Youtube we found in project 3 is that it is hard to manage what kind of videos are displayed in the YouTube home page when the user logged in. A user is likely to get recommendation of unwanted videos by YouTube. Our solution to this problem is to provide user with a new feature that allow them to design the homepage by themselves. YouTube classifies videos into different categories like “News”, “Sports”, “Music”, “Education”, “Movies”, “TV Shows”, “Live”, “My profile”, “My Video”. Base on these categories, we add a "change layout" button to settings which allow user to add, delete, drag the categories they like to the home page and organize them. Also, user can choose the number of videos that show up in that category.
Base on the book, I think Interface Surgery is a good guide for us to improve our design. In our design, the user will see 3 webpages, the homepage, the setting page and the "drag-to-change"page where user choose the categories they like and organize them. If there is anything needs to be cut, I will cut the middle step which
is basically a guide and give two options: 1.start to change the homepage layout 2.go back to original layout. I think we can simply put the guide on the final page where user make their changes and put the reset button there so we can avoid going through multiple pages to finish a task.
